Lara Humphrey Ginger Fox
Ginger Fox Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Dallas Texas featuring paintings by Ginger Fox and select emerging and mid-career artists. Ginger Fox and Lara Humphrey began collaborating and focusing full time on Fox’s fine art career in 2006 showing Fox's work in established galleries across the United States. After many years of being represented by other successful galleries, the next step of the journey was to open their own gallery in the Bishop Arts District in 2012, and then a second location in the Dallas Design District. It is a balanced, interactive, well-functioning team with Fox’s art and Humphrey’s business acumen.
Well into it's fifth year in the Bishop Arts District, the gallery primarily features paintings by Ginger Fox, but also represents a select group of other local fine artists including Juli Price and Jennifer Lashbrook.
Upon visiting the gallery you will find several series of paintings mastered by Fox from magical realism to abstract expressionism. "People are surprised by my abstracts if they are first introduced to my detailed realism. In fact, I have been painting abstract expressionism for over 20 years. There is a freedom I feel during the creation process of pure abstraction, a connection between artist and canvas that has to be honored in order to capture the moment. This process is an instinctive form of painting that requires solitude and uninterrupted focus.”
Fox attributes her painting range to the fact that she is ambidextrous and paints with both hands- sometimes at the same time. She feels as though it might help her in accessing both hemispheres, with each side functioning in very different ways. Detail work seems to require one way of thinking, in which stopping and starting is not a problem, while the purely intuitive loose style of abstract expressionism requires another. She also feels that having the freedom to paint in a variety of styles keeps her creative and inspired which she has more freedom to do since opening Ginger Fox Gallery.
The first Ginger Fox Gallery is located in the heart of the Bishop Arts District surrounded by charming shops and restaurants. It is a very walkable district and great place to spend a weekend day or evening.
The second gallery is in the Dallas Design District on Dragon Street. It has 5000 square feet which allows for a spacious gallery as well as a working studio for Ginger Fox.
Ginger Fox Biography
Texas Panhandle native Ginger Fox is primarily a self-taught artist. Fox’s journey into the arts began as a child when her neighbor dropped sculpting clay in front of her and asked if she wanted to play in the mud, and it continued with an endless array of projects and mediums.
Fox’s beginnings mark a life destined for the creative world, and continued into her professional life as a decorative artist. She honed her skills painting murals, trompe l’oeil, grisaille, and replicating the masters. Fox’s extensive national and international travels added life experience and a deeper understanding and appreciation for the world she discovered. Her love of life and its beauty drives her enthusiasm for increasing environmental awareness and our impact on nature.
Fox paints magical realism to create a world on canvas where she combines the magnificence of our natural world with elements of the manmade. Fox's magical realism work blurs the line between real and imagined in order to consider how we might coexist in greater harmony within the natural world. In stark contrast, Fox has also been painting abstract expressionism for over 20 years. She loves the freedom she feels during the creation process. “You don’t know where you are going so you have the connection between you as the artist and canvas in order to capture the moment.”
Fox transitioned into her fine art path full-time in 2006 with her first solo show at Wally Workman Fine Art in Austin. Since then her work has been shown in established fine art galleries that include Perry Nicole Fine Art in Memphis, Portals Limited in Chicago, Seven-0-Seven in Santa Fe as well as the iconic Miller Gallery in Cincinnati which has been representing fine artists for over 50 years. Ginger added to her accomplishments by being awarded with the New York ArtExpo Solo Artist of the Year in 2010 and in 2016 as a Hunting Art Prize Finalist.
